Changing How We Talk About Games

When I started getting into gaming about six years ago, I was absolutely stunned by just how many titles there were to play. Where do I start? What kind of genre will I like? Will I be ‘good enough’ to play it?

These questions inspired the start of my YouTube and Twitch channel, as I started trying many titles that were new to me, but deemed as ‘classics’ to others.

Knowing how daunting it was to try new things and being new to the gaming scene, typical game reviews just didn’t make sense to me. Yes, something might be scored as a 10/10, but I was asking different questions. “How easy is this for a beginner gamer to pick up?” “How much time do I need to invest into this game to truly enjoy it?” “Will this be a game I can enjoy in short bursts, or will I need to set aside time to really sink into it?”

Surely there are other gamers out there like myself who want to know these things too.

Starting in July, the way I’m approaching my streams and the content I create will be heading in this direction!

I want to keep inspiring the community through gaming, and I’m looking forward to hopefully getting to do this with this new approach! My schedule on Twitch will stay the same, but the games that will be played will be focused on what I have mentioned above! There will be two ‘themed’ nights - one night to focus on a ‘classic’ game, and one night to focus on something ‘new’.

‘Classic’ doesn’t necessarily mean old! The games I play on these nights are somewhat ‘older’ games that are considered favourites in the gaming world that I haven’t played before.

‘New’ games doesn’t necessarily mean brand new either! This can be trying something new on Xbox Game Pass, or a game that I haven’t started yet.

Future YouTube and Website Content

I’m really excited to take this concept I have about how I’m ‘reviewing’ games and planning to bring this across to YouTube and this website so you can either read, hear and/or listen to my content!

For every new game that we get to experience together on stream, I want to put together ‘reviews done differently’ (a very bad working title!). My hope is that people looking to start gaming might find this content useful to find a game that suits their lifestyle, and maybe learn what kind of play-styles they may or may not like.

I don’t have a name for this project yet, but if you have any suggestions - let me know.
