The Game Awards 2022 Predictions

I was so excited when I got the email saying I was an official co-streamer for The Game Awards this year!

I have always really enjoyed watching The Game Awards over the last few years - it’s really exciting to get to see who will take out the top spots in each category, as well as watch some exciting game announcements and performances throughout the show.

I decided I should write predictions and thoughts for each category now so there’s no suspicion of me cheating on the day! In some cases, I’m going to have my personal pick and what I predict the result will actually be. It’s hard having not played every game nominated and making a decision, but let’s see how we go!

You can catch me streaming this live on Friday at 8.30AM AWST at www.twitch.tv/stormiestreams

Let me know in the comments below what your predictions are!

Game of the Year

  • A Plague Tale: Requiem

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • Stray

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3

  • Elden Ring

  • God of War: Ragnarök

I personally want to see Elden Ring win Game of the Year, but I can’t help but feel God of War: Ragnarök will take the big title home.

Best Game Direction

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • Stray

  • Immortality

  • God of War: Ragnarök

  • Elden Ring

Best Narrative

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • A Plague Tale

  • Immortality

  • Elden Ring

  • God of War: Ragnarök

(My vote is based on the fact everyone around me who has played it hasn’t stopped talking about how good the story is)

Best Art Direction

  • God of War: Ragnarök

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • Scorn

  • Stray

  • Elden Ring

I would also love to see Scorn take out Best Art Direction among all these Game of the Year Nominees because it is so uniquely different - do you remember seeing the Scorn trailer for the first time?! (Ew)

Best Score and Music

  • A Plague Tale: Requim

  • God of War: Ragnarök

  • Metal: Hellsinger

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3

  • Elden Ring

Best Audio Design

  • Elden Ring

  • God of War: Ragnarök

  • Gran Turismo 7

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

I’m honestly trying to pick something that isn’t Elden Ring and God of War now, so I’m going with Call of Duty. However, I think Gran Turismo is a strong contender too.

Best Performance

  • Ashley Burch

  • Charlotte McBurney

  • Manon Gage

  • Sunny Suljic

  • Christopher Judge

Games For Impact

  • A Memoir Blue

  • Citizen Sleeper

  • Endling - Extinction is Forever

  • Hindsight

  • I Was a Teenage Exocolonist

  • As Dusk Falls

Best Ongoing

  • Destiny 2

  • Final Fantasy XIV

  • Fortnite

  • Genshin Impact

  • Apex Legends

This is a really strong list of nominees. Even though Apex Legends is a favourite of mine, you have to admit Fortnite is still going strong.

Best Indie

  • Neon White

  • Sifu

  • Stray

  • Tunic

  • Cult of the Lamb

I am so passionate about wanting Cult of the Lamb to win this category. It still baffles me it wasn’t nominated for Game of the Year, so I will be gutted if it doesn’t win!

In my opinion, this is a fantastic lineup of nominees for this category. All but Neon White are titles I have either watched and played, so it makes me happy to see so many great titles here.

However, based on the fact Stray is nominated for Game of the Year… it wouldn’t surprise me if it wins Best Indie. I’m sweating just thinking about it.

Best Mobile Game

  • Apex Legends Mobile

  • Diablo Immortal

  • Marvel Snap

  • Tower of Fantasy

  • Genshin Impact

It’s been a while since I have played Genshin Impact, but I’m no stranger to how popular it still continues to be! It ran incredibly well for me on mobile, and I even went as far as mounting my phone on an Xbox controller to play in bed!

Marvel Snap is a notable mention too that I wouldn’t mind seeing win either!

Best Community Support

  • Destiny 2

  • Final Fantasy XIV

  • No Man’s Sky

  • Apex Legends

  • Fortnite

I’d like to see Apex Legends win something (as my personal favourite battle royale game), however I think Fortnite has such big community support behind them too, I think they’ll potentially win here.

Innovation in Accessibility

  • As Dusk Falls

  • God of War: Ragnarök

  • Return to Monkey Island

  • The Last of Us Part I

  • The Quarry

As an able-bodied person, I don’t have the voice to say what has the ‘best’ accessibility. I am incredibly supportive of games that allow a variety of many different options both mechanically, visually (and more!) to allow a wider audience to experience these titles.

The only game I’ve played in this category is The Quarry, so I’m taking a bit of a guess here!

Best VR/AR

  • After the Fall

  • Bonelab

  • Moss: Book II

  • Red Matter 2

  • Among Us VR

Best Action Game

  • Bayonetta 3

  • Neon White

  • Sifu

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

I have personally really enjoyed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, but I could see Bayonetta 3 or Sifu maybe taking this too.

Best Action/Adventure

  • A Plague Tale: Requim

  • Stray

  • Tunic

  • Horizon Forbidden West

  • God of War: Ragnarök

I’d love to see Horizon Forbidden West win here as I really enjoyed the combat and puzzles, but I do think God of War: Ragnarök will take this one.

Best Role Playing

  • Live a Live

  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus

  • Triangle Strategy

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3

  • Elden Ring

I can only speak for Elden Ring here because it is the only one I have played in this category. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it but the only thing I know about my character is that I am maidenless (still!).

I’ll take a guess and say if Elden Ring doesn’t win, perhaps Triangle Strategy?

Best Fighting

  • DNF Duel

  • Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R

  • The King of Fighers XV

  • Multiversus

  • Sifu

While I haven’t played Sifu myself, I really love what I have seen of the gameplay through watching other people. I find it so strange that Sifu is in this category because its such a different style to the rest of the games in this category.

I have played Multiversus, but I personally wasn’t drawn in as much as I hoped I’d be. However, it may have a chance of winning.

Best Family

  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land

  • Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

  • Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

  • Splatoon 3

  • Nintendo Switch Sports

This is a really tricky one for me. I love Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but if I was to think of a game that was to bring my family together for the best fun possible, it would be Nintendo Switch Sports, hands down.

The fact that myself, my little sister, my mum and my nanna could all play together, Nintendo Switch Sports screams ‘best family game’ to me.

I will give special mention to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga as that is a great co-op game for the family too.

Best Sim/Strategy

  • Dune: Spice Wars

  • Total Warhammer III

  • Victoria 3

  • Two Point Campus

  • Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

While my personal pick is Two Point Campus, I think the reception I have seen for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope has me believing it will take the cake!

I’m such a fan of Two Point Hospital, and while I haven’t had the chance to play Two Point Campus yet, as a fan I’d love to see it win too.

Best Sports/Racing

  • F1 22

  • FIFA 23

  • NBA 2K23

  • Gran Turismo 7

  • OlliOlli World

Let’s be honest, we all know I don’t care too much for sports/racing titles unless Disney wants to talk about remaking Disney’s Extreme Skate Adventure (IYKYK).

So for this reason I’m going to pick skateboarding action-platformer, OlliOlli World.

But also, where’s Forza Horizon 5?

Best Multiplayer

  • Multiversus

  • Splatoon 3

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

  • Overwatch 2

To be honest, I was torn between Call of Duty and Overwatch, but I feel like I have had a much better experience overall playing Overwatch 2.

Both Call of Duty and Overwatch are fun multiplayer titles, but just in different ways. It’s the smoother, consistent performance with a variety of characters and map designs in Overwatch 2 which has me picking it as Best Multiplayer.

Best Content Creator of the Year

  • Karl Jacobs

  • Nibellion

  • Nobru

  • QTCinderella

  • Ludwig

Honestly, I don’t really watch anyone here and only know Ludwig. (Don’t come for me.)

Best Debut Indie

  • Neon White

  • Norco

  • Tunic

  • Vampire Surviviors

  • Stray

The attention Stray on the internet when it was announced and when it launched was huge. I think this game captures the hearts of both gamers and non-gamers alike, which I think will see it winning this category.

However, Tunic is a close second favourite for me and I’d love to see this win too.

Best Adaptation

  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

  • The Cuphead Show!

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2

  • Uncharted

  • Arcane: League of Legends

To hear that a lot of people who weren’t into League of Legends really enjoyed Arcane shows how great this series is. The art style, incredible soundtrack, well-written characters and fantastic story captured the attention of so many people.

However, I do believe Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has a really good chance to win here. I am only an episode or two away from finishing the series, but I have found myself so engrossed with the Cyberpunk world and the cast of characters (as someone who hasn’t played the game yet).

Most Anticipated Game

  • Final Fantasy XVI

  • Hogwarts Legacy

  • Starfield

  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

  • Resident Evil 4

You all know I’m a big fan of the Resident Evil 4 franchise, so this definitely my personal pick. To be able to say I played this title before the REmake treatment is so exciting.

However, I do believe The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will take this one out - they kept us hanging for the official announcement and release date for ages!

ESPORTS

I will make a note that my only experience with Esports this year was watching the League of Legends World Championships this year!

Best Esports Game

  • Coutner-Strike: Global Offensive

  • DOTA 2

  • Rocket League

  • Valorant

  • League of Legends

Best Esports Athlete

  • Jeong “Chovy” Ji-Hoon

  • Finn “Karrigan” Andersen

  • Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev

  • Jacob “Yay” Whiteaker

  • Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok

I have to applaud Faker and his conduct and support of his fellow teammates after their loss at the League of Legends World Championships this year.

Best Esports Team

  • FaZe Clan

  • Gen.G

  • LA Thieves

  • LOUD

  • Darkzero Esports

For the sake of changing it up with my biased League of Legends picks in the Esports category, I’ll pick the Apex Legends Esports team.

Honestly just based on recognisable names, I could maybe see FaZe potentially taking this one.

Best Esports Coach

  • Andrii “B1AD3” Horodenskyi

  • Matheus ‘BZKA’ Tarasconi

  • Erik “DØØMBRØS” Sandgren

  • Robert “ROBBAN” Dahström

  • Go “SCORE” Dong-Bin

This is a pure guess - I don’t follow Esports this closely, but I see LOL under this coaches name, so I’m gonna pick it.

Best Esports Event

  • Evo 2022

  • PGL Major Antwerp 2022

  • The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational

  • Valorant Champions 2022

  • 2022 League of Legends World Championship

Watching the LOL World Championship for the very first time blew me away. The opening performances were incredible with amazing choreography and stage effects to match. The game itself had everyone on the edge of their seats.

There was such a great turn out in Perth for a viewing organised by Respawn, and I think that elevated the viewing experience even more!
